Texas Corn Producers Association (TCPA) President Wesley Spurlock, a farmer from Stratford, Texas, made the following statement in response to President Trump’s direction today for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to uphold the integrity of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS):
“Corn farmers welcomed news today that President Trump upheld his commitment to work to preserve the integrity of the RFS by accounting for the impact of small refinery exemptions, or waivers, to fuel standards set forth in the RFS. Today’s announcement to reopen the rulemaking for the 2020 RFS volumes and propose to account for waivers allows the administration to restore the intent of the law.
We appreciate the president hearing the unified call from farmers to recognize the grave impact the failure to account for waivers had on the laws set forth in the RFS. TCPA also thanks the administration for working toward making the RFS whole.
TCPA appreciates its membership coming alongside fellow corn farmers in calling on the administration on this high priority for the industry. We sincerely appreciate the opportunity for the agricultural industry to continue working with the administration to ensure this is a success.”
