Industry Affairs Director Angie Martin received the award on behalf of TCPB.

Texas Corn Producers Board is proud to announce that its Successful Succession Program recently received the 2023 Outstanding Project Award at the Extension Risk Management Education National Conference. This program was funded and made possible by TCPB and spearheaded by Industry Affairs Director Angie Martin.

Many farmers hope to someday pass down the family farm to the next generation. Yet, when it comes time to put the boots up for good, this can be easier said than done. In hopes to assist with this, TCP

B partnered with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, Southern Extension Risk Management Education, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to build a program to equip farm families for this process.

The Successful Succession program included workshops, resource guide, and video series. Each of these tools are aimed to inform farmers about how to develop a succession plan that leaves a clear path for future generations. Tiffany Lashmet, who is an agricultural law specialist with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, assisted in the process of creating these tools.

The Successful Succession program is broken down into a five-step plan. These steps include:

  1. Flight Plan
  2. Communicate and Strategize
  3. Design Business Succession
  4. Develop Estate Plan
  5. Draft and Implement Your Plan

“It was an honor to represent Texas Corn Producers to accept the Outstanding Project Award on succession planning,” Martin said. “Through the investment from our board and theSouthern Risk Management Education Center, people now have the tools needed to make sure their legacy is protected. Our guide helps everyone prepare for the future without causing more stress on the family.”
