Corn Producers Association of Texas (CPAT) President Joe Reed, a farmer from Kress, Texas:“The state’s corn farmers are incredibly disappointed in Governor Abbott’s actions in requesting a considerable waiver for the Renewable Fuels Standard. In his request, the governor references economic concerns for the reasons behind his request – however, this request was made without hearing from all stakeholders – particularly the state’s agriculture sector that is the second largest contributor to Texas’ economy. Farmers are already working to make ends meet with commodity prices barely at – or even below – breakeven, and facing one of the lowest projected farm income years in decades. The blow that would be felt by farmers if a RFS waiver were allowed could be detrimental to Texas farmers and the state’s economy as a whole.”
