Research Proposals

Researchers working toward knowledge and advancements on behalf of the state’s corn farmers are encouraged to submit proposals to the Texas Corn Producers Board (TCPB) by following guidelines in the organization’s Request for Proposals.

TCPB is a statewide board funded by a voluntary checkoff program. Checkoff funds are aimed to create better marketing opportunities for farmers, including research. Research proposals are due to TCPB by Nov. 3, 2017.

This year, TCPB has identified a number of priority areas for research funds. These priorities include:

  • Water:
    • Irrigation volume monitoring alternatives
    • Water-efficiency of irrigation systems
    • Water-efficiency of crop systems
    • Policy impacts
    • Economics
  • Farm Policy:
    • Farm bill impact on farmers
    • Crop insurance
    • Conservation title implementation
  • Corn Production & Management:
    • Insects
    • Weed
    • Disease
    • Fertility
    • Integrated pest management
  • Corn Breeding:
    • Yield
    • Drought tolerance
    • Heat tolerance
    • Insect resistance
    • Disease resistance

Additionally, TCPB funds research efforts regarding mycotoxins through the Aflatoxin Mitigation Center of Excellence, which determines funds through a steering committee through the National Corn Growers Association.

Researchers should carefully review TCPB’s Request For Proposals online HERE, and then must submit proposals for consideration to TCPB by Nov. 3, 2017, by emailing Shannon Neuenschwander at Researchers within the Texas A&M University System, must submit proposals through Craig Nessler, Ph.D., and Travis Miller, Ph.D. by Nov. 2, 2017.
